Bush’s Board Game Thing Episode 16: Feline Fun

bushs board game thing episode 16

Are you a cat person? Then this week's podcast is purr-fect list for you! Bush's Board Game Thing sees Andy Bush celebrating board games and the experience of gaming with friends Jess Temby and Brian Murphy. Each week, expect passion, enthusiasm, and multiple trips through gaming wormholes. This podcast is paw-ered by Zatu - we're making sure the board game cogs keep on turning. Each week, I'll be bringing you the best bits here on the blog and letting you shop the podcast! Today, we're re-cat-ing Bush's Board Game Thing Episode 16 which is all about cats!

Do you have something that you'd like to share with the team? Maybe a fur-midable board game idea? Even when and where you like to listen to the podcast, set the scene. Email [email protected] if you want to get involved with the podcast. For example, if you have any board game disputes, let Andy and co get to the bottom of it!

Meow, onto episode 15, Feline Fun! This week's episode is entirely inspired by Jess; new additions, Ellie and Molly the cats. Whilst Andy and Jess love cats, Brian isn't their biggest fan. He is much more of a dog person, cats are in-fur-ior. I'll be bringing you the top three games from this week's episode.

Exploding Kittens

This is a card game for people who are into both kittens and explosions! Exploding Kittens is a hilarious and highly strategic, kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette.

You'll be taking turns drawing cards from the deck until someone draws an exploding kitten, at which point they explode! If you don't have a paw-some defuse card then you are out! If you do then you'll be able to defuse the kitten using things like laser pointers, belly rubs, and catnip sandwiches.

The game gets more and more intense with each card you draw because fewer cards left in the deck means a greater chance of drawing the kitten and exploding in a fiery ball of feline hyperbole. If you're into card games or laser beams or weaponized enchiladas, this is the game for you.

The Isle of Cats

In The Isle of Cats, you are a citizen of Squalls End. You're sent on a rescue mission to The Isle of Cats, tasked with rescuing as many cats as possible. Lord Vesh is on his way, you have to escape with all of the cats before his arrival. Each cat is represented by a unique tile and belongs to a family, you must find a way to make them all fit on your boat while keeping families together.

The Isle of Ctas might be Brian's nightmare but it is a must-have for any cat lover or board game lover.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

No this isn't Bush's wishlist, this is a game guaranteed to get the whole family laughing. Taco Goat Cheese Pizza is not your average card game. It is, however,  easy to learn, replayable and suitable for anyone. This is the perfect game to bring out with friends at a party or a night in with the family.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is filled with hand-slapping mayhem! Each player has to place a card from their deck face up whilst listing the title in sequence. When the card matches the word... BANG! If you're last, you'll be picking up all of the cards. All you need to do is get rid of all of your cards before anyone else.

Just think of a cat jumping on that red laser pen.

Brian's Board Game Fact of the Week

Now, if you have listened to this week's episode, then you may have picked up on his hatred of cats. Yes, he does have a cat, but that doesn't stop this rivalry!

Which animal do you think was responsible for The Black Death? Obviously rats, right? Wrong (according to Brian)!

Brian's fact of the week is actually accusing our feline ancestors. Pope Gregory the 9th absolutely despised cats. So much so that he issued the extermination of cats. During his time as pope, it is estimated that over 12 million cats were exterminated. Besides this being a very sad fact of history, it is also suggested that it resulted in the population of rats growing exponentially. With no cats to catch the rats, the spread of The Black Death only grew and spread like wildfire.
