RIO GRANDE GAMES HISTORY

Rio Grande Games was created in 1998 by Jay Tummelson, who had previously worked for Mayfair Games. Tummelson and his new company had the idea of creating English versions of German board games. He had previously worked on games such as Catan and Detroit/Cleveland Grand Prix. Since their launch, Rio Grande Games have gone on to publish their own board games and have won numerous industry awards. Ironically, they have even begun licensing their games to partners in other countries wanting to localise the games in their local languages. Games such as Race for the Galaxy will soon be available in Korea and China. Some of Rio Grande's tip board game franchises include Dominion, Power Grid and Puerto Rico.

RIO GRANDE GAMES FRANCHISE

In total, Rio Grande Games have helped to publish over 350 board games since their creation back in 1998. Many of their own games have enjoyed success, such as the Dominion and Power Grid franchises. The original Dominion game has won game of the year honours in several countries and has been translated into 17 languages. Another popular franchise from Rio Grande Games is Race for the Galaxy, which also has expansions such as Rebel vs Imperium, Xeno invasion and Brink of War. There are also a couple of spins-offs, called Jump Drive and Roll for the Galaxy, which is a dice version of the game. Other popular titles from this publisher include the Bohnanza, Puerto Rico, Concordia and Transamerica. See our full range of Rio Grande Games.

MISSION STATEMENT

"The mission of Rio Grande Games is to promote the playing of games, which offer the players choices. We do so by publishing adult and family strategy games, although children with appropriate parental supervision will enjoy playing many of these games.

"One advantage of these games is that they promote social activity both in the family and among friends. We are particularly interested in getting families to play these games together."
