Bush’s Board Game Thing Episode 21: Bored Games

bushs board game thing episode 21

Be ready for the best boredom busters! Bush's Board Game Thing sees Andy Bush celebrating board games and the experience of gaming with friends Jess Temby and Brian Murphy. Each week, expect passion, enthusiasm, and multiple trips through gaming wormholes. This podcast is powered by Zatu - we're making sure the board game cogs keep on turning. Each week, I'll be bringing you the best bits here on the blog and letting you shop the podcast! Episode 21 is all about those games that can help you through the boredom of lockdown.

Do you have something that you'd like to share with the team? Maybe a great board game idea? Even when and where you like to listen to the podcast, set the scene. Email [email protected] if you want to get involved with the podcast. For example, if you have any board game disputes, let Andy and co get to the bottom of it!

This week it is all about refusing to let the lockdown stop you from gaming! A celebration of the ways in which people have used technology and improvisation to keep on gaming. Stand by for some great ways to keep gaming during lockdown.

This week's selection of games is inspired by the wonderful Tom Harrod. One of our amazing Zatu Guest Bloggers, Tom collated his top 10 games to play despite social distancing. One of his top picks is that of Wavelength.

This is a social guessing game in which two teams compete to read each other’s minds. Wavelength is deceptively simple and can unlock hours of fun if you are in sync with your teammates. If you're not, it could be one frustrating evening.

Not only does Wavelength get your brain working, but it also is a treat for your eyes! The colours and exceptional component quality make this a must for any game night. There is also glitter-infused plastic wheels, need I say more?

Battle Sheep

From a psychedelic gameshow to a field of sheep, next up is Battle Sheep.

You'll be flocking to greener pastures with this wonderful tactile game from Blue Orange Games. Become a shepherd and manage your own rival flocks of sheep using grid movement. Games of Battle Sheep are easy to teach, and there’s no dull waiting while someone sets up the game. Setting up is part of playing Battle Sheep, itself!

These sheep might look sweet and innocent but don't let that wool deceive you. These sheep can be evil, they will bring out your competitive side.

Betrayal at House on the Hill

In Betrayal at the House on the Hill, creaking floorboards, unsafe architecture and the Pentagram Chamber are not all you have to worry about. Haunts lie within this twisting mansion, choking smoke and deafening screams.

Brought to you by Avalon Hill, this largely co-operative experience has you exploring a haunted house trying to escape and help the haunts finally rest in peace.

Horror fans will love this game! it's a great way to get your horror fix without sitting down and staring at another screen for two hours.

This title boasts simple rules, combined with massive replayability, making it a fantastic game to rope people into the hobby. For those more experienced, Betrayal at House on the Hill is a great opportunity to let your hair down and have some good clean fun in a terrifying setting.

Brian's Board Game Fact of the Week

In honour of the Story Master's Tales that feature on this week's episode, Brian is here with a collection of facts. With Dungeons & Dragons sweeping many board game nights, Brian wanted to pay homage to the great game! If you tune into the podcast, Brian counts down his 3 favourite dungeons!
