With many of us thrust into a second lockdown, we are constantly looking for something to pass our time. It’s undeniable that many people turned to board games during the first lockdown in March. Now, imagine there was a game that combined the two? Porthos Games is making that a reality with The Big Lockdown.
Lockdown Life
Inspired by global events and a distinct lack of things to do, The Big Lockdown is an easy-to-learn card game that combines strategy, luck and a love of hand sanitiser. This is a card game that will be different every time that you play, whether that be with friends or family, in or out of lockdown.
The Big Lockdown was created by husband-and-wife duo Madeleine and David in the first lockdown. After watching everything they could on Netflix, the duo behind Porthos Games decided to channel their creativity. Starting off life as a coping strategy, The Big Lockdown soon evolved into a tongue-in-cheek card game inspired by people’s experiences during the global pandemic. The game is currently funding on Kickstarter.
Stock Up
The aim of this game is to collect the biggest and best stockpile. You need to collect the most supplies, whether that be toilet roll or bags of penne! Collect more than your opponents to take the lockdown crown, most probably made of toilet roll holders. Beware though, you must create this stockpile whilst avoiding all of the dilemmas of life in lockdown and staying safe from infection.
Each copy of The Big Lockdown contains 109 cards that are bursting with fun. Every card hosts a playful illustration drawn by Madeleine. These 109 cards, brimming with hilarious situations, are then divided into three decks: indoors, outdoors and supplies. Being either indoors or outdoors presents certain setbacks and will affect your supplies, but the risk of infection always lurks over you. If you draw one of the cards containing the nasty pathogen, then you might be out of the game.
The Big Lockdown is a game bursting with personality. The attention to detail in this card game is sure to bring smiles to the whole family. From silly illustrations to funny situations, this card game will be a hit for those nights in, before or after lockdown. Best of all, the person who last washed their hands gets to go first.
More Valuable than Toilet Paper
Tempted by the notion of hoarding, hygiene and hilarity? The Big Lockdown is currently funding over on Kickstarter. Funding until the 3rd of December, The Big Lockdown is one to watch. Everyone that backs this projects and secures a copy of the game will receive a ‘print and play’ version to tide them over until the physical release.
Depending on the amount you back, there’s a whole host of exclusives up for grabs. From becoming immortalised as a character in the game to getting your very own hazmat suit.
