News: WWE 2K24 Release Date Announced?

WWE and 2K Games have officially announced that WWE 2K24 will bodyslam its way onto shelves and digital marketplaces on the 8th March!

Once again boasting an updated roster, two all-new MyRise career paths, a new ’40 Years of WrestleMania’ Showcase and the return of Special Referee, Ambulance and Casket Matches, 2K have pushed on from last year’s success by promising some tantalising new content.

Taking centre stage on the cover this year is ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes on the Standard Edition, while Bianca Belair and Judgement Day’s Rhea ‘Bloody’ Ripley share the spotlight on the Deluxe Versions.

Speaking of which, there are FOUR different versions of the game to pick from this year, but what sets them apart from each other?

Standard Edition

Available On: Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The Standard Edition is the base game, plus the pre-order ‘Nightmare Family Pack’, which includes Stardust, Undashing Cody Rhodes, ‘Superstar’ Billy Graham, Mattel Cody Rhodes (both playable and MyFaction card) and MyFaction cards for Dusty Rhodes ’76 and Pharaoh.

Physical copies of the base game for Xbox Series X/S are also compatible with the Xbox One. It is unclear whether this is the case for PS5 and PS4 physical copies too.

This base version of the game will set you back anywhere between £50 and £65 from most retailers or digital stores upon release.

Cross-Gen Edition

Available On: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The Cross-Gen edition is the standard for anyone wanting to purchase a copy of WWE 2K24 on a PS5 or an X-Box Series X/S and is identical to the base game aside from the fact it will grant access to the game on both generations of console.

Digital only, this version comes in at £64.99.

Deluxe Edition

Available On: Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

The Deluxe Edition (Exclusive to GAME in the UK) contains everything from the Standard Edition, plus:

  • Access 3 days early (starting on the 5th March)
  • A Season Pass covering all 5 planned DLC releases
  • A MyRISE Mega Boost
  • SuperCharger
  • A Rhea Ripley MyFACTION Evo Card
  • A Bianca Belair MyFACTION Card
  • Rhea Ripley Alternate Attire
  • Bianca Belair Alternate Attire

For those wondering what the ‘SuperCharger’ is, it automatically unlocks a number of Legendary wrestlers immediately, rather than having to earn in-game points to unlock them.

The Deluxe Edition comes in both Physical and Digital form and ranges in price from £80 to £90.

Forty Years Of WrestleMania Edition

Available On: Steam, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

Finally we come to the 40 Years of WrestleMania Edition, a digital exclusive weighing in at a whopping £104.99.

Including everything from the Deluxe version, the Forty Years of WrestleMania version also comes with the creatively named Forty Years of WrestleMania Pack

This pack includes the WrestleMania 40 Arena, a ‘Showcase Superstars Roster Unlock’ and both playable and Gold MyFactions of all the below:

  • ‘Macho King’ Randy Savage from WrestleMania 6
  • Rey Mysterio from WrestleMania 22
  • Triple H from WrestleMania 30
  • Charlotte Flair from WrestleMania 33
  • Rhea Ripley from WrestleMania 36

What is a Showcase Superstars Roster Unlock? Well, it unlocks all the content from the Showcase mode without actually having to play it. Useful for players who don’t like the Showcase mode, but not much else.

The Bottom Line

Last year’s relatively late announcement of 2K23 in January worried many, as it seemed like WWE and 2K Games were keeping their cards close to their chest; usually a sign that a game isn’t going to be great so the less said the better.

However, 2K23 was a marked improvement on the already stellar 2K22, and that should reassure fans that this year’s late announcement is not cause for concern.

Special Referee matches used to be a staple of WWE games and can add masses of fun to multiplayer bouts, so that is definitely a welcome return.

Not much has been said about improvements to GM and Universe Mode, other than they are ‘bigger’, so whether they will impress remains to be seen.

Still, put a date in your diary for the 8th of March (or the 5th if you plan to splash out on one of the premium versions!) and prepare for some action!
