The pre-kickstarter copies of the second in the South Tigris series have hit content creators' doorsteps and we can now see a bit more about how this will play out on their KS and retail release in Spring/Summer 2023. Scholars of the South Tigris is a dice bag building game where players use their dice as workers to complete actions targeted with translating scrolls from ancient languages into Arabic so that their scholars may learn from them. This achievement of course being registered as victory points. You will gain points by translating manuscripts using hired translators, gaining knowledge in various science and mathematics areas and influencing guilds.

I have long been a fan of Garphill Games, Shem Phillips simply keeps putting out banger after banger. The artwork from the Mico along with the bold colours and iconography make it clear from a glance that this is a Garphill publication. This game looks like it brings a sound historical backdrop, in a previous interview with Shem Phillips he made it clear that as much time is spent on the historical research of the theme as the development of the game itself.

Set in around 830 AD at the height of the Abbasid Caliphate, the scholarly minds of the Caliph are tasked with translating scientific manuscripts from all over the world to further their knowledge and understanding. Everytime that Shem comes out with a new game I feel like I learn something more about that part of history, and I for one cannot wait to get this one to my table. This one may be the one to topple to top spot held by Raiders of Scythia for me!
