NEWS: Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC

It’s time to rev up your Miraidon (or Koraidon) and ride back down into the vibrant Paldea region once more. Game Freak and The Pokémon Company have announced at least two waves of DLC for the latest mainline games in the franchise, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.

Released throughout 2023, the DLC is being split into two parts: The Teal Mask, to be released in autumn, followed by The Indigo Disk in winter. Trainers can purchase both together as part of an Expansion Pass.

Rumours have been swirling around the Pokémon fandom faster than Barraskewda tearing through the oceans. So what’s this DLC actually going to bring to the battleground?

What Is The Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero DLC?

Pokémon collectors, start stocking up on Ultra and Dusk Balls: more than 230 familiar Pokémon will be added to Scarlet and Violet through this DLC.

Considering this generation finally saw the number of Pokémon clock in at over 1,000, some players were frustrated that only 400 were included in the base game. Many fan favourites like Ninetales, and Milotic have now been confirmed, encouraging nostalgic Pokémon masters to get ready to scour the seas and comb through the countryside once more.

The Pokémon Company has confirmed that the split is both a development and content decision, with each part containing additional story content and gameplay.

If you want to cash in on the freebies the DLC has to offer, make sure to grab an early access pass. You’ll get exclusive cosmetic items in the form of school uniforms, as well as a code for your very own Hisuian Zoroark, which is otherwise unavailable in Paldea. This ghostly fox has the Dark Tera Type, with a special moveset of Happy Hour, Bitter Malice, Nasty Plot, and Tera Blast.

Everything We Know About The Teal Mask DLC

The Teal Mask DLC will see players going on an annual school trip to the land of Kitakami alongside another school. At the base of a huge mountain, this tranquil settlement features rice paddies and apple orchards, providing an experience distinct from Paldea.

Whilst it won’t act as another region, it involves a traditional festival for the local village and focuses on the folklore of the area. There are also new Pokémon to meet and catch.

The Teal Mask will release in autumn 2023, so keep an eye out anytime between August and November.

Everything We Know About The Indigo Disk DLC

Want to know even more about the other academies in the Pokémon world? Well, The Indigo Disk DLC sees you transferring to your academy’s sister school, the Blueberry Academy, as an exchange student.

With this release being further away, we know very little about its content so far. We do know that you’ll meet the turtle Pokémon Terapagos, the new legendary, which is likely tied to the origin of Terastallization. Plus, whilst you will go to classes and meet the local students, the academy itself is quite different from your own. Established much more recently than Naranja or Uva, the Blueberry Academy curriculum puts particular emphasis on battling. Even more excitingly, it seems that it’s not just located outside of Paldea—most of the school is beneath the sea!

If that doesn’t want to make you grab a Mantine and explore the waves, I don’t know what will.
