What started off as a fun idea has become a reality. I remember asking the question of my local gaming group if they would be interested in a small local gaming convention. There was a majority of Yes! I started off small, 60 guests, in a community hall playing games all day. Fast forward a few years and a global pandemic and FBGCon 2023 is back for its third year running with an expected attendance of over 120+ people, a bigger venue and more fun and exciting things happening.
So, what is FBGCon? Why should you care? What is happening? Why is £7 for 12 hours of gaming a bargain?
FBGCon is a local convention held in Letchworth, Hertfordshire and will be taking place on Sat 18th Feb 2023, 10am till 10pm. What does FBG stand for, well, my screen name as a content creator is The Friendly Boardgamer, so it was a logical step to call my con FBGCon. It is an open and friendly environment for anyone and everyone to come and play some games. It doesn’t matter what your level of gaming is, all are welcome.
There is a ton of open space for gaming, a selection of my personal games for the library ranging from welcoming games to complex games, as well games kindly donated from various publishers. Big shout out to Big Potato Games who sent a huge bundle of games to add to the library.
There will be sessions of Blood on the Clocktower being run throughout the day. This is a big social deduction, bluffing game that has gone down amazingly well at previous conventions. Great opportunity to role play a character, in a horror, narrative driven story game. I am very excited to have this in attendance again and I know that people will be booking up slots very quickly for this. Thank you to everyone that will be running this.
There will also be a selection of exhibitors in attendance. My aim for FBGCon is to focus on the games and the gaming, as such I wanted to have a few exhibitors present showing off their latest demos, prototypes and published games. Confirmed so far are Naylor Games (James Naylor) and Card Noir (Richard Lawton). New exhibitors are being announced so be sure to sign up to the Discord channel and follow/like the Facebook page to keep up to date with new and exciting announcements.
It wouldn’t be a boardgaming convention without a bring and buy and a raffle. The bring and buy was insanely popular last year and I personally have a few cracking games to sell. So, be sure to dig out those games that are not being played and get them sold to make some extra cash for more purchases. With every ticket purchased you will get an entry into the raffle. There are a bunch of games already donated and I am hugely grateful for everyone that has supported the con, including Zatu who have sent through a great selection of games.
All of this for £7. That is 58p per hour of gaming. Cheaper than a bar of chocolate.. You have got to admit, that is a bargain. If you want to grab a ticket then click here and sign up today.
I am always thinking and planning new events/activities to bring to FBGCon and as and when these are announced I will update Discord and the event page on Facebook. Head on over to these and sign up and follow/like to stay up to date. I am looking forward to Sat 18th 2023 and playing some games with you.
