Capcom 2022 Showcase Recap

capcom showcase 2022 feature

It doesn’t seem that long ago I was writing about another Capcom showcase. You know the one - it sent Resident Evil fans off the deep end with playable demos of Resident Evil Village and a somewhat baffling release schedule. But here we are again with a bunch of new details about some upcoming titles - here’s what you missed.

What Was Announced?

Capcom kicked things off with a new trailer for the Monster Hunter Rise expansion - Sunbreak, which comes out on 30th June. The video showed the return of the Espinas region from the Monster Hunter Frontier series. As well as Gore Magala - the poster child monster from Monster Hunter 4. Then good old Capcom surprised everyone by announcing a playable demo on PC and Switch, which is available now!

It wouldn’t be Capcom if they didn’t mention Street Fighter 6, which they did... briefly. Maybe they had planned something bigger but with the recent leaks ruined it, who knows. This was followed up by a trailer for Capcom Fighting Collection, due out on June 24th, and a trailer for Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium, coming on July 22nd.

We then got an update on Exoprimal, a co-op action game where you’ll fight dinosaurs while wearing exosuits. It’s not a Dino Crisis remaster, but it’ll do for now.

Capcom then got our hopes up with a message about Dragon’s Dogma, many fans were hoping for a sequel announcement. But it never came. Instead, Director Hideaki Itsuno announced an upcoming release of a video celebrating the game’s 10-year anniversary on 16th June. Hopefully, they’ll tag a sequel announcement on that instead.

Capcom quickly moved on to the long-awaited DLC for Resident Evil Village. We’ll be getting three doses of Resi goodness: Shadows of Rose will be a story DLC, in which you’ll play as Rose in third-person. We’re also getting additional quests for The Mercenaries mode and some new playable characters, including everyone’s favourite 9-foot vampire - Lady Dimitrescu. Finally a third-person mode for Ethan in the main story. It’s all packaged up as a Winter Expansion DLC and hits on October 28th. The much delayed RE:Verse also re-launches then.

We then got some lovely Resident Evil 4 remake gameplay for the first time. It launches 24th March 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

Next-gen updates for Resident Evil 7 and the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes are also out now.

Final Thoughts

And that’s that. It was a fairly short affair, but I feel we got almost everything we had hoped for. Did anything tickle your fancy? What are you most looking forward to? Let us know on the socials.
