Pokémon Presents August 2022 Round-Up

pokemon presents feature

Today’s Pokémon Presents livestream gave us our best look at the upcoming Scarlet and Violet yet.

First of all the snazzily dressed Takato Utsunomiya handed things over to Chris Brown - The Pokémon International Director one, not the poor excuse for a human being one - who talked about The Pokémon World Championships 2022. Which returns after three years and is being held in London from 18th August to August 21st this year.

Afterwards Utsunomiya gave us some details on the upcoming Pokémon Go Fest event that takes place on August 27th. Players will have a chance to capture all of the Ultra Beasts released over the three in-person events this summer. Buzzwole and a Pikachu event will be hitting MOBA Pokémon Unite. Mewtwo will be returning to Pokémon Café Mix and a Trainer Lodge is coming to Pokémon Masters EX.

Pokémon Presents: Fidough

Once all of that was out of the way, things turned to the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and we were bombarded with new information. Including a dog Pokémon that looks like it’s made of bread! AND it’s called Fidough - brilliant.

In Pokémon Presents, we saw the forms that the game’s legendary box creatures Koraidon and Miraidon can take. Player will ride these beasts to traverse the Paldean region. They can sprint, swim and glide

Tera Type

And new for this entry all Pokémon can “Terastallise”. Which is a temporary process which covers the creatures in a garish crystalline effect and gifts them a crown for the remainder of any battle. Unfortunately they resemble the terrible ornaments old people put on their mantelpiece in the 80s. On the brightside when a Pokémon has been “Terastallised” they get a boost in power that matches their Tera Type allowing them to deal extra damage and use new attacks.

Scarlet And Violet

Raid battles are also coming to Scarlet and Violet. Tera Raid Battles will offer up to four players the change to take on wild Terastallised Pokémon. Not only that but you’ll be able to adventure across the Paldean region with up to four friends.

The game will have three main questlines, described as “grand stories”. The first of these is the standard tour of eight Pokémon gyms across the region - but this time without a specific path to follow. Two more stories were hinted at, but not detailed.

As ever, an early adopter bonus for Scarlet and Violet will reward those who buy the game in its first few months on sale. This time, it’s a Flying Pikachu - available to claim via the Mystery Gift feature until 28th February 2023.

All in all Scarlet and Violet are sounding great and it might be time for a second Nintendo Switch to make its way into my house for some co-op action. As long as that Mystery Gift feature doesn’t become a loot box feature (or some variant of them) I’ll be all over this one! What did you think of the livestream? Let us know on the Zatu Socials.
