Sub Terra from inside the box is 1 1-6 player, cooperative, tile laying, cave escape game. Players take on the role of cavers who have fallen into a cave system and must explore it to find the exit.
Players start by choosing their characters, from a choice of 8. Each different character has a special ability and placing three health tokens on their player board.
The exit tile is shuffled into the bottom 6 of the stack of 64 tiles and the 30 hazard cards are shuffled with the ‘out-of-time’ card being placed at the bottom of the deck.
On their turn players can use their two actions in several way: reveal a tile for a careful cave inspection or explore where they reveal and move onto the tile. They can also use both actions to perform more powerful actions including; running across tiles, using rope, swimming digging and healing themselves or another player.
A hazard card is drawn and resolved these include, gas leaks, floods, cave ins all of which have effects on the board and may require skill rolls, rolling the dice and succeeding with a roll of 4-6.
There are also horrors that will chase cavers through the system and if caught can cause a player to fall unconscious, reducing number of turns for the team.
Players win if two of the team reach the exit, but there are many ways to lose.
