NEWS: Expeditions: A MudRunner Game

Expeditions

Hot off my contribution to the Video Game of the Month feature where I talked about SnowRunner, I was very excited when I saw the news about Expeditions: A MudRunner Game. Expeditions takes the very addictive core gameplay loop from the MudRunner and SnowRunner games and is planned for 2024.

In essence, players will traverse a range of landscapes, weather conditions and manage the condition of your vehicle to deliver various goods and items to locations across a map. The core gameplay of SnowRunner (which I have many hours under my belt) is very compelling. When I describe the game, it does not sound the most interesting, but trust me it is very addictive. There is a sense of progression and improvement as you earn money to purchase new pieces of equipment/addons and vehicles. The more improvements you get the more contracts you can finish and so forth.

There is also talk about this installment being more “science” focused with echo sounders and fancy science machines as well as managing a camp by building research structures and hiring experts to unlock new skills. This sounds like it is emphasising more of an RPG element to the game, which I am totally down for.

Expeditions appears to be improving on this core formula and to bring another installment of this very interesting and compelling game. There is very limited information about it so far, but one new addition is a drone. The drone can be sent out to scout out the terrain and landscape and better plan your route. This sounds like a very cool addition and I can’t wait to set off out in to the world of Expeditions with my trust trucks and piloting a drone. I am super excited for more slow moving, mud driving action in Expeditions. Now, I have another hundred hours or so of SnowRunner to complete before it comes out so I am off to get stuck in some mud.
