NEWS: Brandon Sanderson Deckbuilding Game Announced

Brandon Sanderson

Brandon Sanderson has authored some of my favourite books, namely the Mistborn series. He recently (well April 2022) had a super successful kickstarter which raised over $41.7 million with over 185,000 backers, for four “secret” novels set in his self created universe - Cosmere. He is an established author and has a talent for world building in a fantasy setting.

Now, he is taking his hand to tabletop gaming, with a recently announced deckbuilding game. The game will be developed by Brotherwise games who are the publisher responsible for adapting Sanderson’s Stormlight Series into a board game called Call to Adventure: The Stormlight archive, a line of minis and a tabletop RPG which is planned for a 2024 release. This sounds to me like a partnership that is going to work well and has the potential to create something amazing.

There is very little information on the mechanisms of the game (other than deckbuilding), who the designer of the game will be or even if it will be based on the Stormlight Archive series. What has been announced is that the game is planned for a 2024 release, which is not actually that far away. I have high hopes for this game. I do enjoy deck building if there is something unique and a twist on other tried and tested formulas. I hope that this is not a Star Realms re-theme (nothing wrong with Star Realms by the way) but something new and exciting. Some form of combative dueling card game could work based on some of the settings in the books, but again, this has been done. Maybe a coop deckbuilder? There is a lot of chatter on the internet about using Stormlight or Cosmere as a setting but this is merely speculation at this point.

Nothing else is really known about the game from Brandon Sanderson. However, this is something that I will be keeping an eye on as it could be awesome and as and when we hear anything we will be sure to drop another article.
