Glory Eternal
Looking to spice up your Stormcast army with some sparks and fireworks? Then the Stormcast Eternals Evocators are the new addition that your roster needs!
By channeling the power that flows beneath his skin, an Evocator is capable of scorching the skin of their enemies and empowering their allies in battle. Their tempest blade and storm staves crackle with power as they advance towards their foes.
I chose this unit in particular because their loadouts offer both magic and ranged attacks during the battle. They also serve as a strong support for the melee units that they accompany. This is because the only spell they know empowers the wound roll for the unit they are targeting.
Blades & Stormstaves
To serve sigmar, you’ll need models and components. Thankfully this kit comes packed with the following god-worthy supplies:
- 76 x plastic Components
- 5 x 40mm round bases
- Transfer Sheet
- 1 x How to build booklet
Thankfully, this unit was nice and easy to build. There were no broken pieces in the box I bought, and nothing was bent out of shape Additionally, none of the pieces that come with this kit are spindly enough to risk being broken in transit.
As there are only 5 of these models in the box, they don’t take an awful amount of time to build or paint, and they come together very quickly. There’s also not much variation in the style of accessories or weapons that you can choose from; so there’s no particular build of Evocator that is more difficult than any of the others.
I found the Evocator models really easy to paint. Each part of the model is distinctive, and easy to pick out from the other parts. Although there are a lot of small flat panels on these models, they took the contrast paint really nicely, and the pooling effect showed perfectly on the armor indents. It did take multiple layers of white to get the smooth finish I was looking for, but the effort paid off.
I chose this particular paint scheme for my Stormcast Eternals Evocators army because I wanted something more striking on the battlefield, than just a block of gold troops. To start with I based the miniatures in a metallic gold spray base, and then coated them in a layer of blood angels contrast paint. From there, I picked out the smaller details over the models to give them a nice finish that catches the eye.
Sigmar Customized
The Evocators come equipped with one melee weapon, the tempest blade and storm stave. It offers 4 attacks that hit and wound on a 3+ before modifiers and deals 1 damage at -1 rend. Although this unit doesn't dish out the damage like their allies, they come into their own when supporting another unit, or bogging down an opposing team.
Unfortunately this unit doesn’t have any ranged attacks. However, once combat is done, they have the opportunity to deal 1 damage to each enemy unit for each models that it consists of. This can be perfect for picking off any stragglers that got away during a skirmish.
As with a lot of the Games Workshop kits, this box of miniatures offers a few customization options for you to add some variation to your army. Instead of the tempest blade and stormstave, you can opt to include a 2-handed grandstave instead. Additionally, you can choose to assemble your Evocator-prime as a male or female.
Final Thoughts
Although I enjoyed building these, I rarely use them in my rosters. You can’t choose the spell that they learn, so they lack any offensive potential as a caster. They fail to dish out a lot of damage during a skirmish, so they also lack any offensive kick in that sense too. All in all, they are a supporting unit that lack any other use or purpose.
Nonetheless, they do look striking on the battlefield, and if you choose a bright colour for the cloaks, they will really stand out among their allies.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend buying multiple boxes of these troops as their point cost could be better spent on other units that really pack a punch. However, if you’re looking to use up some stray points that you have left over, the Evocators would be the perfect way to use them up.
