Dobble is the game of quick reactions and matching pairs. In this variant, the pairs are all your favourite characters and items from the world of The Gruffalo. Dobble is one of Asmodee’s more simple games, but also one of its universal, popular ones. It features circular cards, with a whole bunch of different images on them. Your aim is to be quick enough to locate a pair of images that sit on both your card, and the top card!
Dobble sounds like a simple form of ‘Snap’, but in the heat of the moment, the tension can get the better of you. Not to mention the lightning-quick reactions of the other players! (This goes double if they are keen Gruffalo fans!)
Every one of the cards is unique in what images it has on it, but each card has an image on it matches one other card in the deck. As you might have guessed, all of the artwork is that of Axel Scheffler, just like from the book. Like regular Dobble, there’s five different variants you can play. While they differ from each other, all share the same mechanism. Dobble is about whoever has the quickest eyes and hands. It’s a case of being quick enough to shout out the name of said image, and slap your hand down!
The great thing about Dobble is it takes a mere 20 seconds to teach. While there might not be any strategy involved, it will still have you and your family in fits of giggles. Especially when your hand-eye observation skills fail you!
