How To Play Zombie Dice Horde Edition

Zombie Dice HTP

Zombie Dice is a push-your-luck game which can be played with 2 or more players. The Zombie Dice Horde edition includes the base game and the expansions which give you even more brains!

Setup

The setup for Zombie Dice is simple. Put all the dice into the bag and you are good to go. If you are playing the Double Feature variant with the Hunk, Hottie and Santa dice just remove 2 yellow and a green die from the bag.

Playing The Base Game

The aim of Zombie Dice is to collect the most brains as players are mindless zombies. Over the course of the game, players will draw 3 dice from the bag and roll them. All dice have 3 symbols; a brain, footprints and a shotgun blast. Once the dice have been rolled, players can continue to choose dice, up to 3, and roll them. During each turn, players need to maximise how many brains they are collecting. However, if a player rolls 3 shotgun blasts during their turn, they lose any brains they have collected, and their go is over. Finally, players can roll footprints. Footprints show that your prey has gotten away! If you choose to roll more dice, any footprint dice are added to the total to bring your roll up to 3.

Dice come in different colours; green, yellow, and red. These represent the survivor’s toughness. Green survivors have more brains, yellow have a balanced mix and red survivors have more shotguns. Knowing this informs your odds. If the bag has more red dice in it than green, you may want to stop rolling.

If players keep rolling dice and there are none left in the bag, dice are added back into the bag so they can continue.

Once a player gets 13 or more brains, every other player gets another turn. Brains are then added up and the person with the most wins!

Double Feature

To add more variation to Zombie Dice, the Horde edition includes the Double Feature expansion. In this expansion, players replace 2 yellow dice and a green die with the Hunk, Hottie and Santa dice. These unique dice interact with each other and provide new bonuses. The Santa die adds the energy drink power up and the football helmet. The energy drink turns green footprints into brains and the football helmet lets you take an extra shotgun blast that turn! Each player can only draw the Santa die once per turn.

The Hottie and Hunk dice are interactable and may deter you from pushing your luck. If you draw the Hottie and roll a brain, there is a chance this could be taken away. During your turn, if you also draw the Hunk and roll a shotgun blast, the Hunk will rescue the Hottie and you will lose her brains. This works the other way as well. Because these dice can save each other, it makes it risky to keep drawing and rolling dice from the bag. The Hunk dice also has double shotgun blasts!

The School Bus

Finally, the Zombie Dice Horde edition also includes the epic School Bus die. This large 12-sided die introduces 4 more actions into the game. After players have rolled their first 3 dice, they may declare, ‘I am getting on the school bus’. Instead of drawing 3 dice from the bag to roll, they will roll the school bus die and then another 2 dice to make it up to 3. Players will continue to roll this die as part of their selection until their turn ends, they fall off the bus, or they decide to jump off and chase some runners.

The School Bus die, includes lots of different choices and chances to grab more brains. The new actions include the stop sign, yield, tyre tracks and dead end. These actions mix up gameplay and provide the following new rules:

  • Stop sign – When players role this, their turn immediately ends, and they score their brain count this turn.
  • Yield – Any shotguns rolled in the same dice throw will turn into footprints.
  • Tyre tracks – Players have fallen off the bus and cannot use the School Bus die for the rest of their turn. They must also give up a brain.
  • Dead end – All runners this turn will become brains!

To keep track of the brains and shotgun blasts you accrue whilst rolling the School Bus die, the game includes tokens to help you keep score.

And that is how you play Zombie Dice Horde edition. So, grab your dice, chuck them in the bag, and get to rolling those brains! Just make sure you don’t push your luck too much or those shotgun blasts will leave you with nothing.
