WHAT IS SKYTEAR?
Skytear is a card-driven miniatures game, inspired by MOBA video games like League of Legends. Draft your team of heroes from up to 24 champions, then use their unique skills and ultimate abilities to lead your minions to the enemy Nexus.
When the Nexus falls, victory will be yours! But be warned, your opponent may have drafted strong heroes, able to overturn your strategy. The Outsider, a huge elemental made from violent energy, will be turned against you if you do not claim it, and your opponents’ Power Cards and attacks will threaten to overcome you.
Stay adaptable, and your chances of victory will rise.
The concept of Skytear was founded PvP Geeks in January 2018. The team, all from Modena in Italy, was led by company leaders and brothers Giacomo and Riccardo Neri. Together, they all shared a desire to create the ultimate competitive miniatures game.
Despite specialising in miniatures, there was nothing small about this dream! Since the first Print and Play prototype was released in 2018, over 10,000 players signed up to playtest. Alongside this, they attended several conventions throughout the year to enable players to test and suggest any improvements.
The Skytear team actually cancelled the initial Kickstarter attempt in February 2019, with the intention of creating a larger player base later on. After this, the second kickstarter was launched in May 2019, and was an even bigger success, with over 1200 players pledging $130,000 towards the creation of the game. This funding has enabled the Neri brothers and their team to unlock all their stretch goals.
HOW TO PLAY
You start by drafting your team of heroes. Your team may consist of up to 24 champions, all of which have alternating attributes and strengths. With countless combinations of heroes and Power Card loadouts available per selection, you can ensure you have the perfect team for the battles to come - just be warned that no two matches are the same, so it's best to alternate your strategy each time.
Skytear’s alternating victory conditions and diceless system rewards player choice; the Power Card system allows instant reactions even in the opponent's turn, as well as allowing for combos of special abilities, which are fully capable of turning the course of the game.
Once you're ready for battle, your heroes step onto the battlefield, ready to fight. You may engage in combat however you wish; there are many ways to win the game, some of which don't even require you to attack a single enemy hero. The overall aim of the game is to make your way across the board, and use your wits and strength to raze the enemy Nexus. What approach will you choose to take on your opponent?
