Its role is to engage and destroy enemy fighters. Unlike the TIE fighter squadrons though it has enough firepower and weight to attack larger ships as well. It has both laser cannons and ion cannon emplacements. These are mounted forward facing and to each side. The Raider II class has slightly better forward facing firepower than the Raider I.The two designated name cards mean you can fly the Raider as the Impetuous or the Instigator. The Impetuous has an extra attack capability whilst the Instigator can restrict the movement of enemy squadrons. There are two commanders you can assign to the ship with their special abilities. Admiral Ozzel enables rapid speed changes. Admiral Montferret gives a defensive advantage when travelling at speed.Having one or more Raider Class Corvettes gives you weighty firepower to back up your TIE fighter squadrons or even replace them as they can become peripheral once the Rebel fighters are destroyed whereas the Corvette can carry on to engage the Capital ships.
