I bought Energy Empire the day after playing it for the first time at my local games club. It's a worker placement game but you can place in the same areas as other players if you have the energy to stack. Each player has a player board and gets to play as a country from a choice of two random cards. Each country has different starting bonuses. There is also an element of engine building from buying cards that can be activated during your turn. On your turn you can either place a worker and activate cards or generate which is recalling your workers, returning your energy then rolling dice to generate energy for your next turns. Whilst all this is going on though everybody is producing pollution which is placed on your player board reducing end game bonus VPs and bringing each round to an end. At the end of each round, an event card is activated giving VP and usually a random event. The game ends when all of the pollution tokens as been removed from the game board and each player has had one more turn. After final scoring, the player with the most VPs wins. This game plays with 1 to 5 players and is easy to learn. I've played solo and with a group of 4 and enjoyed it each time. Once you get into the swing of how a turn works the game flows smoothly and the management of your player board becomes second nature. I recommend this as a gateway to more heavier worker placement games.
