Description
In Cargo Noir, players each represent a different family in a 1950’s themed underworld, trading smuggled goods.
The board is modular allowing the game to scale between 2 and 5 players. Certain destinations are only open for trading, with goods placed on them, at certain player counts. Each location has different numbers of goods available there.
Each turn a player has several options. They can send a ship to a location to bid on the goods available there, to the market to trade for goods, or to obtain more money. A player starts the game with three ships. There are options to acquire an extra two ships throughout the course of the game increasing your reach.
If a player sends a ship to a location they must also place money in that location to show how much they are willing to bid. Another player may also choose to go to the same location but, to do so, they would need to bid more than the original player. When the original player has their turn again they have the option to up their bid or they may choose to leave the location and spend their money elsewhere.
Bidding wars can become intense if both players really want the type of good available in that location. Other players can take advantage of this by sending their ships to other locations and paying less for goods.
Players are seeking to increase their stash of smuggled goods, to be able to turn these goods into points and acquire high value spoils (such as a casino). The more of one type of good a player has the more points it is worth. There are also wild tiles which can be used as any type of good. When a player has enough goods to acquire the item they want they must trade those goods in to purchase the item.
The player with the most points from their spoils (items) wins the game.
