Tomb Raider Will Return With Unreal Engine 5

Tomb Raider Unreal 5

Grab your dual pistols and your bottomless backpack, Crystal Dynamics have announced the next Tomb Raider game!

It's well known that I am the Tomb Raider buff here at Zatu Games. Lara Croft has not only inspired me, but countless fans across the globe for decades now. Having just celebrated the 25th anniversary, fans have been waiting for a brand new title in the Tomb Raider series.

Lara Croft Returns

Having first launched on PlayStation in 1996, Lara Croft quickly cemented herself as one of the biggest gaming icons out there. Spawning a whole franchise, a 2010's reboot, two separate film series and even a live experience, it's safe to say that Tomb Raider is a household name and a game that many cite as being the reason they got into video games. With the most recent entry in the franchise, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, releasing back in 2018, the community have been clambering for a new game.

Unreal Engine 5

On April 5th, Crystal Dynamics announced that Lara Croft will officially be returning on a whole new series of consoles. Get ready to see Lara on your shiny new PS5 and Xbox Series X. Crystal Dynamics also announced that the brand new game will be built on Unreal Engine 5. This new engine translates into next level storytelling and gameplay experiences. Using Unreal Engine 5, Crystal Dynamics have just started development on the brand new game.

It's not known whether this new game will continue from where Shadow of the Tomb Raider left off. There has been speculation of Tomb Raider taking the Marvel approach. It has been rumoured that developers might even merge the timelines between the original series and the 2013 reboot.

Raiding New Consoles

Late last year, it was also announced that Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris would make their debut on the Nintendo Switch. We can expect to see both of these titles coming to Nintendo Switch later on this year.
