Super Kitty Bug Slap Review

Super Kitty Bug Slap Review

Super Kitty Bug Slap is taking the age-old family favourite, SNAP! And adding new dimensions to make it more competitive and entertaining for everyone.

First Impressions Count

In all honesty if I saw Super Kitty Bug Slap sat on a shelf, I probably wouldn’t pick it up, the artwork is very eye-catching but the name is very childish and as someone who doesn’t have children I probably wouldn’t give this game a second look. However, I will say it is eye-catching and someone who is looking for a family game or a cheap present for a game loving youngster probably would be drawn to the fun cartoon kittens on the brightly coloured box.

Out the Box, On to the Table

Once unboxed, Super Kitty Bug Slap is as expected a standard deck of cards, what always bugs (get it?) me with this style of packaging is I would love the top edge to be perforated so that it can be easily removed making this travel game, truly pocket sized!

The cards, as to be expected from a company like Steve Jackson Games are of very high quality, with four player cards and then a deck of playing cards with a range of humorous multicoloured felines.

The cards themselves are clear and easy to distinguish, however not so easy that the game is as easy to play as you might think, as I will explain. The artwork is adorable and again very eye catching for young children.

Them's the Rules

The rules come on a single sheet and they are, as to be expected, incredibly simple. Each player takes a turn as dealer, whilst the other team members take it in turn to essentially play SNAP. The main difference between is that each player is dealt one of four slightly differing player cards.

Cards are split up by colour, shape of cat, and either blue beetles or red ladybirds. Sounds easy right?

Well, not as easy as you would think.

I will admit we didn't exactly follow the rules, being three adults we omitted the rule of giving players chance to slap the cards and generally taking your time, Oh No! We decided full pelt as fast as you can deal would be far more sensible, and admittedly it did make the game a lot of fun!

Game on!

Lets not beat about the bush, Super Kitty Bug Slap is a very, very slight variation on a classic, throw in cats and cute bugs and you're not going to go too far wrong. Our group choosing to play a more free for all method of gaming rather than the slower paced, family friendly game meant we had finished three rounds in under 10 minutes, however it was a lot of fun.

Super Kitty Bug Slap is a fun game to pull out at a party, either with young family members to keep them entertained, or as a highly competitive filler game amongst a group of friends.

Another Game?

Would we play again? Yeah we probably will!

Would it be one I would pull out and say you have to try this? No, but if someone enquired about it or if it felt like we needed a quick filler game then yeah why not! I would probably recommend it to parents or friends with kids, more than I would serious gamers, but then that's not the target demographic so I'm not really surprised.

For its target audience however it is quick to learn and would be an absolutely great game to take on your travels to keep the kids entertained.

Super Kitty Bug Slap Conclusion

Basically, Super Kitty Bug Slap jazzes up a classic, adding a few more player cards or even other decks could extend the player count, it's wide open for plenty of thematic variations, but whichever way you look at it, it's a very simple, quick filler game.

Would I spend a fiver on it? Probably not, would I recommend it to people now I own it, again probably not unless someone was looking for a family game they can play with young children.

Overall, Super Kitty Bug Slap is great fun for kids but nothing really groundbreaking.
