The highlight of the Strange Remnants expansion is the new deck of quest lines, the Mystic Runes, which follow a similar style to the expedition encounters of the base game, in the sense that these missions move around the map depending on which location the quest requires you to explore. Similarly to the artefacts found within the expedition encounters, the mystic rune quests rewards explorers with powerful assets and companions.
However, what sets apart the mystic runes quests the most from any other expansion are the unique story lines and objectives to uncover the curious wonders of the world in a hope to keep the ancient ones away and root out their earthly allies.
For example, suddenly, your ship is no longer sailing upon the ocean you once knew, and you find yourself within a sea of stars. Can you keep your composure and navigate your position within the celestial landscape? Or, will you lose your mind in the alien ocean and succumb to the terrors that lie in the depths of this strange cosmos? The rewards can be great, but the penalty for error is much greater.
