Who is Shem Phillips?
Shem Phillips is a board game designer from New Zealand. He is the founder of Garphill Games, which was established in 2008. The publishing brand was officially launched the following year alongside Shem's debut board game, Linwood. The company is based in Kapiti, New Zealand.
Shem has released a number of board games since Linwood, however he is most-known for the North Sea Trilogy. This includes Explorers of the North Sea, Raiders of the North Sea and Shipwrights of the North Sea. There are also various expansions available.
In 2018, Shem Phillips joined forces with Renegade Game Studios and S J Macdonald to create another series of games, the West Kingdom Trilogy.
Introducing the West Kingdom Trilogy
Architects of the West Kingdom became one of the best-selling games of 2018 and continues to sell out very quickly this year. The game was brought to life through Kickstarter, and takes place at the end of the Carolingian Empire.
Following the success of Architects, Shem Phillips launched Paladins of the West Kingdom on Kickstarter. This campaign ended in March 2019, with over 7500 backers pledging a total of NZ$ 907,127.
This second entry in the West Kingdom Trilogy sees players building outposts and fortifications, commissioning monks and confronting outsiders. The player with the most victory points at the end of the game is the winner.

DID YOU KNOW?
Shem Phillips worked as a Digital Printing Factory Manager for several years alongside his role at Garphill Games. This allowed him to learn plenty about graphic design and production, and even lead to special graphic t-shirts being available during the Kickstarter campaign for Shipwrights of the North Sea.
