News Round Up: Settlers Of Westeros

game_of_Thrones

Game of Thrones and Catan will be joining forces in a Westeros-themed version of the highly popular franchise of gathering and building.

However, this new version will feature a second unique game play variant that is exclusive to Game of Thrones called Night Watch mode.

In Night Watch mode, players take on the role of defenders of the Northern Wall, that defends the kingdoms of men from the undead white walkers and the wildlings.

The game has been designed by Settlers of Catan creator Klaus Teuber and will feature artwork based on George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels. The task of the players is to ensure the replenishment of resources and to ensure that there is enough guardians on the wall to protect from invaders from the North, such as wild beasts or even dangerous giants may appear before the wall and try to break through. Support is given to the players of 11 well-known characters, who must be used as hero cards. Only those who build their settlements at the same time and have a watchful eye on the wall can win the game and be victorious!

Catan: A Game of Thrones is reportedly due for release sometime this October so make sure you keep an eye out and add this to your collection.

Solve The Crime Before The Deadline

WizKids have announced a new card game of deception, crime and murder set in New York City during the 1930's, Deadline.

Players work together to solve diabolical crimes as a team of detectives trying to get as many clues together and solve the crime before the deadline. Deadline is for 2 - 4 players answering a series of questions about cases based on clues they have gained during the game.

The more questions you answer, the better the detectives you will be and ultimately solve the crime. Every cases in Deadline has clues with symbols that players need to match to unlock secrets in the cases.

Character cards, featuring some of the founding members of the hard-boiled crime fiction genre – such as ‘Ray Chandler’ and ‘Dash Hammet’, bring an added bonus feature to game play as they detail unique abilities for players to use. Players will need to watch out for misleading information and plot twists that will complicate your investigation.

Deadline has reminiscing feelings of Sherlock Holmes: The Consulting Detective as Deadline includes a case book to help players dive deep into the dark narrative of New York in the 30's.

Deadline will be out this July.

Acclaimed designers Bruno Faidutti and Anja Wrede have teamed up with Z-Man Games to bring a new series of five games in one called Junggle.

The game uses one deck of cards and a single card showing the hierarchy and players can player different variations. Below is two variations of Junggle to give an example of the game play available.

King of the Jungle - Cards are placed face down and one by one players will look at the cards on their turn. The aim is to figure out what animal will be left that is highest up in the hierarchy but it is difficult to figure out as animals are scared off by those directly above them on the hierarchy. If you manage to figure out the animal left then you win.

Jungle Party - A bluffing style variation where players have two face-up cards, known as your 'party', and an additional two cards. On a players turn they draw a card and then pass one of their three hand cards to another player face down.

Players then have to decide to keep it or give it back to the other player, and whichever choice is made, the recipient has to flip the card and add it to their party. Like before if the animal is directly above them in the hierarchy they will be scared off or scare off other members of a players party. First player to collect five of the same animal at the end of their turn is the winner.

New To Kickstarter

New gaming company, Ornage Nebula have launched a new Kickstarter campaign for their game, EPOCH: The Awakening. The Game designer, Marc Neidlinger described Epoch: The Awakening.

"The game begins: thrown overboard after a life of wretchedness, you wash ashore a hostile island ruins — completely alone with nothing except the breath in your lungs and an undaunted spirit.

Through your advanced resource management, area control tactics, and free-form action selection, you’ll add companions to your party, acquire bizarre relics, attain potent character traits, and defeat a host of unusual monsters in the ultimate goal of mastering heroic attributes — and regaining honor."

EPOCH is two to five player game where players enter a fantasy world and recruit companions for their quest, gather relics and control areas spreading their influence. Influence is important as those players who manage their influence gain attributes that can be combined to advance character traits, for example, players can meditate at a spire to gain inspiration or players can train at a fort to gain strength.

There are over 72 unique card abilities that can be merged in unusual ways for potent combinations, and fresh tile placement each game for high replay-ability.

EPOCH: The Awakening is on Kickstarter now.
