Triominos Classic

Description

You’ve heard of Dominos, but have you played Triominos? The clue’s in the name – these are triangular-shaped tiles, with each point having a number on it! Triominos Classic is a tile-placement game that’s easy for the whole family to learn.

This ‘deluxe’ version of Triominos has chunky, quality plastic tiles. It also has sturdy racks for you to stack your tiles. Talking of which, you start the game with seven tiles, which you keep secret from your opponents. Each tile is different, and has one number on each point of its triangle. It could be, say, 0-1-2, or 3-4-5, 2-2-0. There’s every possible combination between triple zero and triple five!

The player with the highest triple starts the game; they place it on the table. They score the face-value of the tile (as in, the sum of the three numbers on said tile). Then, clockwise, players take turns to add one tile to the public display. When you place a tile, one side of your Triomino has to sit flush against another. Therefore, two numbers will have to match, where two points of the triangles sit next to each other. Again, you score the face-value of your tile. The shape and layout of the display is never the same, twice!

There’s a few ‘trick shots’ you can achieve, which are worth mega-points. If you can complete a hexagon (where six triangles sit in a circle), you score a bonus 50 points! In some scenarios you could play a ‘bridge’ (where you ‘bridge’ a gap in among the tile layout) for 40 points. But in Triominos, there’s always the risk that you won’t be able to place any of your current tiles. If that’s the case, you need to pick one up from the face-down supply. That’s a penalty of -5VP! But if you can place it on that turn, you’ll score the face-value as per normal. But, if you pick up three tiles without success in a single turn that costs you -25VP and your turn is over! Ouch!

Triominos ends once one player gets rid of all their tiles. They then score the face-value points of all the tiles remaining in everyone else’s racks!
