Terraforming Mars: Colonies is the 4th expansion to the critically acclaimed smash hit Terraforming Mars by Fryx Games. With the colonisation of Mars going so well, the corporations look to the other celestial bodies in the solar system for a means of gathering resources and expanding their portfolios. These new colonies aren’t able to be terraformed in the same way as Mars but that doesn’t mean that they are worthless. They are rich in resources that can be acquired and used in your other endeavours.
In this expansion each player receives a trade ship that can be sent to these distant colonies once per generation to gather the resources found there. The players can set up colonies on these moons and dwarf planets (sorry Pluto) as a standard project to get themselves a bonus whenever somebody sends a trade ship to do business there. There are 11 colonies included in the box and you will only use up to 6 of them each game leading to a lot of variety and replayability.
There are 49 new project cards that are tailored to work with the new colonies mechanic, with many giving bonuses or reduced costs when trading and building your colonies. There are also 5 new corporation cards to choose from that specialize in trading with and building colonies. Terraforming Mars: Colonies adds new decisions to the game without extending the playtime much beyond the base game. It can be played in combination with any of the previous three expansions for Terraforming Mars as well as the new expansion Terraforming Mars: Turmoil.
