Qwantum is a fast and snappy roll and write game, published by Nürnberger-Spielkarten-Verlag. It is like a spiritual follow up to Qwixx. Roll & Write games have been all the rage for a while now, thanks to titles like Ganz schön clever and Railroad Ink. Qwantum is a game where two to four players roll dice with what appears to be a simple aim: score ascending numbers. But there’s a hidden twist in this game…

Each player gets their own scoring sheet, and a pencil. There’s four rows on your sheet, in colours purple, blue, yellow and red. In each row, there’s six circles. Your aim is to fill these in, left to right. Players take turns to roll a series of custom dice. They have numbers 1-6 on them, but with faces that feature all four of the colours. There’s one extra plain die (also 1-6). The active player rolls, and then picks all dice of one colour type, adding the pip value. They also add the plain die’s pips to this sum. They enter this into the corresponding-coloured row on their sheet, into the furthest-left circle. Everyone else has to pick a colour from those remaining, should they wish.

The catch is that players always need to add a number that’s higher than the previous number written in that row! Well, for the first four numbers, at least. After that (for the fifth and sixth number), the numbers then have to descend in value. At this point, you’ll need to enter a number that’s lower than the previous number on that row.

Qwantum ends once one player has filled in all four rows. They might not win, though! You get to score any vertical columns where you’ve entered a number in all four rows. You then score the second-lowest number in that column. Add up all the second-lowest numbers from all completed columns, and the highest score wins!

Player Count: 2-4 players
Time: 15 minutes
Age: 8+
