Hi, Pokémon fans! Today, we're taking a look at the eagerly anticipated Eeveelutions Premium Collections. They're treating us with not just one incredible new premium collection - but three! So here's what you can expect from the new Pokemon TCG: VMAX – Vaporeon/Jolteon/Flareon boxes.
The Trading Card Game
You've likely seen the movies, watched the anime, or played the games... but have you played the TCG? You may already know what Pokémon is, but you may be unfamiliar with the trading card game (TCG). You can play the TCG either offline, or online - as all packs come with an online code, as well as physical playing cards. New Pokémon sets are usually released every 3 months (sometimes more often with holiday sets!).
The Premium VMAX Collection
With the new premium collections, you can become a master of not just one Pokémon type... but 3. Will you harness the sea with Vaporeon? Increase the voltage with Jolteon? Or use your power to burn with Flareon? The artwork of the boxes themselves is striking. These boxes may be one of my favourite Pokémon products ever.
What's Inside?
Let's get to the most important part - what's inside each box? Each box contains the following products:
- 5 Pokémon TCG Booster Packs
- 1 Vaporeon/Jolteon/Flareon Pin
- 1 Full Art V Card Promo of either Vaporeon/Jolteon/Flareon
- 1 Alternate Art VMAX Promo of either Vaporeon/Jolteon/Flareon
- 1 Over-Sized Alternate Art VMAX Promo of either Vaporeon/Jolteon/Flareon
- 1 Code Card for the Online Game
While the packs may vary in differing boxes, the packs you'll likely receive are:
- 2 Packs of Fusion Strike
- 1 Pack of Evolving Skies
- 1 Pack of Vivid Voltage
- 1 Pack of Rebel Clash
These packs were consistent among the 3 boxes I opened. However, this may not always be the case, as Pokémon are known to mix things up with which sets they include.
Impressions
Personally, I'm a huge fan of this Pokemon TCG: VMAX release. With the artwork released last year in the Japanese TCG, English fans have been anticipating these cards to drop for a while. Grabbing these boxes is the only way to get your hands on these stunning Eeveelution promo cards. As well as the other collectible pieces, such as the jumbo card and the metal pin.
The promos have texture, and to have two such rare cards as an extra in a premium box is brilliant value for money. The pin is durable and extremely high quality. In comparison to products such as elite trainer boxes, the price point may seem quite high. However, I think ultra collectible promos alone make it a worthwhile purchase for me.
What I also love about this product is that there's a great range of sets from the Sword and Shield era. Ranging from the newest set for Pokémon to release, Fusion Strike, all the way back to one of the first releases from the Sword and Shield era, Rebel Clash. There's definitely something for every Pokémon fan in these boxes.
Further Thoughts
Another bonus of Pokemon TCG: VMAX is the ability to play online and offline. Each booster pack comes with an online code card, and the box itself comes with a code card for the promos. With the TCG soon releasing on smartphones and tablets, there's no better time to join the community.
One thing worth mentioning is that, if you're looking for an easy way to start your own deck, this may not be the best product to start with. Pokémon decks consist of 60 cards. They are a mixture of trainer cards, Pokémon, and energy. You will not have enough cards to build your own deck. If this is what you're looking for, you may be better off buying a pre-made deck, or an elite trainer box to build your own.
If you're looking to collect Pokémon cards, it can become quite an expensive hobby. The best thing to do is pick and choose which products are right for you. This was always one I was desperate to get my hands on, because the artwork on the promo cards is just so stunning. The booster packs and pins are just an added bonus to me!
If you're a fan of the Eeveelutions, I'd highly recommend the Pokémon expansion, Evolving Skies. If you're looking to complete your Eeveelution set, Evolving Skies has them all - V cards, VMAX's, full arts, secret rares and alternate arts!
