The 27th of February marked Pokémon Day, an annual celebration of the release of Pokémon Red and Blue back in 1996. To mark the occasion there was a Pokémon Presents revealing lots of exciting plans for the coming year, including the official announcement of the next main series games, Pokémon Violet and Scarlet. Shining Pearl and Brilliant Diamond also got a mention as well as the recently released Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
The most exciting announcement of Pokémon Presents was Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the new Generation 9 titles slated for release later this year. From the trailer, it seems there will be a big step towards the open-world content seen in Legends: Arceus. It looks like the region will be based on Spain. The sneak preview concluded with images of the three new starters: the Grass Cat Sprigatito, the Fire Croc Fuecoco, and the Water Duckling Quaxly.
Despite the game's recent release, Pokémon Legends: Arceus players will be able to download a new piece of free software called Daybreak. This update contains a new investigation to undertake into mysterious mass outbreaks across the Hisui region. Players will also be able to battle fierce opponents, such as the wardens or even legendary Pokémon themselves. There is also a mystery gift giveaway of 30 Ultra, Jet, and Gigaton balls using the code ARCEUSADVENTURE.
A new animated series set in Hisui featuring an original story was also teased. It is due for release later this year.
The Generation 4 remakes are also getting some extra content. Players will be able to collect a mystery gift called Oak’s Letter, which will allow them to catch the mythical Pokémon Shaymin.
The battle arena video game Pokémon Unite is getting a few new features. The first is a new type of battle called full-fury battles. Along with this, the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa will join the roster and players can complete tasks to obtain Hoopa’s license. Also, everyone who logs in between now and March 14 will receive a special celebratory in-game hat and shirt. The Galarian Pokemon Duraludon is set to join the game in the future.
From March 1, Pokémon originally found in the Alola region will be popping up in GO. Alolan Exeggutor will also be appearing more often between now and then.
Pokémon Masters EX
To celebrate the 2.5-year anniversary of the game, new sync pairs will be available each day. Players can also earn 5000 gems for completing the new Victory Road challenges and 3000 gems just for logging in. Skyla, May, and Raihan wearing special outfits will also be available.
A special log-in bonus has been announced which lets players can obtain a special outfit for Bulbasaur. There will also be an increased chance of a shiny Piplup appearing. A new feature will also be added to the game: Deliveries. These let players reach Pokémon far away and to celebrate Pokémon Day players will be able to try this feature out 11 times for free. Victini will also appear in-game for the first time.
