News: Ubisoft Forward Event Recap

Ubisoft
Ubisoft

2020 has really been an odd one so far. Over halfway through year and I think I have been on more videocalls with friends than my entire life so far. One of those calls was to get boozy while watching the Ubisoft Forward event last week. Now, Ubisoft have an odd track record. One year they will bring out hits, the next, micro-transaction fuelled duds. So, what do we have to look forward to over the next year? Below is a look at the top 3 most anticipated games from Ubisoft over the next year, starting with…

Watch Dogs: Legion

Poor Legion. Originally revealed at E3 2019 with a release date of March 2020, this third instalment in the hacker/shooter franchise was delayed 7 months to October this year. Set in a fictionalised version of London, the story see’s you control the London branch of DedSec who are in a tense battle with Albion, a group that use the advanced surveillance system in the game called ctOS to survey everyone in the UK.

The reason behind the name Legion is central to one of the games main mechanics. In Legion, you will be looking to recruit members of the public to join DedSec in order to takedown Albion. Each recruited member will allow you to use different abilities and weapons, however, once they are killed, that member will be lost. The delay has looked to give the developers more time to work on diversifying the range of weapons and abilities characters have. For example, hiring an anarchist means you will get a baseball bat as a melee weapon, hiring a news reporter means you can use a news drone to scout locations, hiring a roadie will mean you have a guitar and a silenced pistol (for some reason, guess the band is gigging at dodgy locations).

Along with an up to 4 player online co-op mode, the game will be released on all major platforms come October, and on next gen consoles once released.

Watch Dogs Legion

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

Ubisoft really do love a colon in their titles!

Revealed earlier this year, Valhalla is the impressive 12th instalment in the mainline series and see’s you play out an alternate history set in the year 873 as Vikings invade Britain. The games main story hasn’t been revealed yet but you can expect that your playable character, Eivor, will be part of the conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order.

Being Vikings, one of the main mechanics in the game will be raids. Demonstrated in the Forward Event, raids will see you assault areas ranging from towns to castles in order to take down enemies. New combat mechanics also now allow you to dual wield weapons which could make for some interesting fight sequences. Like Legion, Valhalla will allow you to recruit raiders from all over England which will bring new fighting styles and elements to the game. Along with this, raider’s will also share stories from their past, enriching the overall game world.

Finally, and potentially the cutest element, you can recruit a cat to your group which will then join you on sailing trips. So, there’s that!

Valhalla will be released November 2020 on all major platforms.

Far Cry 6

Revealed at the event and landing February 2021, Far Cry 6 is set in the island of Yara where you will be looking to free the people from a tyrant who has them in his grasp, standard Far Cry stuff really. President Antón Castillo, portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito (The Mandolorian, The Boys, Breaking Bad) leads the land with an iron fist while grooming his son Diego, portrayed by Anthony Gonzalez (Coco), to be the new leader. You will play as Dani Rojas; however, a member of the resistance looking to uproot the Castillo regime and bring freedom to the tropical island.

The open world map is described to be the largest world to date in a Far Cry game and has been inspired by Cuba. It is also the first map that features a largely residential landscape which will likely bring the seasoned Far Cry player a new challenged to engage with. The game will feature the use of makeshift weapons, vehicles to travel the island, hiring other fighters to help you and the “Fangs for Hire” system that has little detail revealed yet. Hopefully, it’s fighter dogs you can train!

Far Cry 6

Other than these three we saw

  • A thank from the Rainbow Six Siege team for 5 years
  • AI teammates coming to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint
  • Brawlhalla moving to mobile (android and ios) and
  • The Open Beta for Hyper Space going live, a fast paced, multiplayer shooter

And that’s your lot! What was your favourite game from the event? Let us know by connecting with us on Facebook or Twitter!
