Mysthea – Kickstarter Preview

Mysthea - Kickstarter Preview

The board game market is becoming increasingly crowded, and to stand out takes a bit of effort. There will always be the big anticipated campaigns for the latest CMON or Batman game, and there will always be the games that you were so aware of. Tabula Games are hoping to capture your attention with their fantastically realised Mysthea.

Here at Board, Deck & Dice Towers we get to see a lot of Kickstarter projects in various stages, and I can honestly say that Mysthea looks like one of the most thought through and delicious for a long time.

Mysthea Rage

An initial glance at the pictures and campaign page draws comparisons to Lang's epic Blood Rage, but look a little deeper and you start to see some interesting differences. The area control happens across five islands that can move, and be moved, adding some spacial awareness to your usual area control shenanigans.

Monsters can appear on the islands and are generally too strong for individual heroes so there is a teaming up element to consider as well. Hand management also has some nice tweaks, but what is really standing out at this stage is the presentation and the world that's been created.

Myths of Mysthea

It's clear a lot of thought and care has gone into sculpting the world, set on the planet Icaion, which was hit by a massive wayward crystal which altered it's state permanently. This impact ultimately created the floating islands that you will battle to control. These islands are as yet unexplored and the game will see you doing so while vying for control.

Looking at the components, the art work and minis that have been created so far are, frankly, stunning. It's hard to imagine this not catching a few eyes when it's launched, it certainly has my attention.

You can read more of the lore and backstory on the official website. The game itself is due to launch on Kickstarter on March 7. Keep an eye out our blog for a New to Kickstarter articles once it has officially gone live!
