Marvel Crisis Protocol: Hulk Painting Guide

Atomic Mass Games’ Marvel Crisis Protocol miniatures game features some of the best sculpted models around. It’s always fun to paint a tiny version of one of your favourite superheroes (or villains) and I’ve put together this guide for painting the Hulk box (using Citadel paints, unless specified otherwise).

Hulk Smash

After being exposed to intense gamma radiation, scientist Bruce Banner now transforms into a green-skinned monster known as the Hulk when he gets angry. While oftentimes hated and feared, he still uses his incredible strength for good and is a key member of the superhero team, The Avengers. This model was the first box for Marvel Crisis Protocol that featured just a single character, but the Hulk makes up for that by being twice as big. Easy to assemble, it stands on a larger base than other models and towers over them on the tabletop.

I sprayed the model with a light grey primer and used contrast paints as a first step for painting (Karandras Green for his skin and Shyish Purple for the shorts). I highlighted all of the skin using Warpstone Glow, Moot Green, and then mixed in small amounts of Deepkin Flesh to the Moot Green until the raised areas were as light as I wanted them to look. For the shorts, I applied Xereus Purple over most of them, just leaving the contrast paint mainly in the recesses. Then I used Genestealer Purple and Dechala Lilac to highlight them.

I then picked out the hair, eyes and nails with Abaddon Black, highlighting the hair and nails with Eshin Grey and adding Corax White for the eyes followed by a dot of black for the pupils. After applying a coat of Basilicanum Grey contrast paint and a drybrush of Administratum Grey to the base, the Hulk was ready to smash his opponents.

I hope you’ll join me again for another painting guide in the future. Message us on social media @ZatuGames to show us your painted Marvel Crisis Protocol miniatures - we’d love to see what you’ve been working on!
