King of Tokyo Duel Announced

I find King of Tokyo a hugely enjoyable game. You cannot take it too seriously. It is a massive monster melee. So to see another game get created in the series is very exciting! It is coming out this month too! Awesome.

Typically King of Tokyo is a game for 2-6 players, but the gaming community would recommend at least 3 players. So to see this specific and dedicated 2 player version of the epic monster battle is very cool. Players take on the role of a mighty monster (for anyone unfamiliar) and compete with dice to be the King of Tokyo. Given players are rolling dice there is a large chance element involved in the game, with multiple routes to victory.

This Duel version is no exception. Iello Games, the creators, have provided a handy how to play video on their website and there are three routes to victory. The first is a popularity contest, the second is to smash the city, and third way, the classic way, smash your opponent. It is great to see significant differences already to the original game.

Here is the how to play video, and I have to say the game looks great. I feel there is a bit more depth to game play in this version, compared to the original multiplayer. Probably needed for a duel version but I really like what I am seeing. We still get to gather our power cubes to purchase assorted enhancements for the monsters. The two trackers on the game board, these are a novel addition to the game that players will need to monitor their opponents performance on. These buzz features also… they look like they will create even more havoc in a game that is notorious for getting quite messy.

I picked out this news on social media today and what’s great is this game comes out this month, October 2024. I’m going to pick this up very soon for sure as I am always on the lookout for quick 2 player games. The game is suggested at 20 minutes and for players 8 years old and up. That looks about right to me. I cannot wait!
