It’s the Roast for Me Review

it's the roast for me review feature

To quote RuPaul, the library is about to be open. Because reading is what? FUNDAMENTAL! Get ready to read your friends to filth in It’s the Roast for Me

A hilariously offensive card game, It’s the Roast for Me is a devilishly delightful party game that allows you to roast each and every one of your friends. The question is, will this card game live to slay another day or will it sashay away?

The Library is Open

It’s the Roast for Me from Triple Dragon Games is a party game that actively encourages you to verbally jab at your nearest and dearest. The concept is simple but that is exactly why my group of friends had so much fun playing this one.

Players take it in turns delivering single sentence roasts using the line ‘it’s the BLANK for me’. You’ll be prompted by a handy set of action cards as to what kind of word you should use to fill that blank space - Sorry Taylor Swift. Your roast might be based upon a shared experience or maybe their taste in films or music. Whatever it is, your goal is to impress the rest of the group and earn yourself as many points as possible. The player with the most points after 4 rounds is the winner!

It’s the Roast for Me also has a sneaky trick up its metaphorical sleeve in the form of its action cards. Alongside serving as prompts for each of your roasts, there are a few surprises hidden with the large deck of action cards. Within the deck, there are different action cards that challenge you to either complete a dare, answer a tricky question or compliment another player.

The inclusion of these cards is a great way of spicing up the game and giving it an extra dimension. Believe me when I tell you that receiving a compliment during this game is like gold dust, even if it will be used against you in the next round.

The Shade of it All

Designed for 4 to 10 players over 25 to 45 minutes, It’s the Roast for Me is the perfect card game for any party or gathering. After playing this game over a few drinks at a friend’s house, I then decided to bring it along on a beach trip. Not only is it a great way of getting everyone involved, It’s the Roast for Me is the perfect size to play on the go.

In true party game style, this game really shines with a large group of players. The bigger the group, the more material you’ll have to work with. When I played this one with a group of 4, we quickly cycled through the roast prompts on the action cards. However, when I played with a group of 10, we continued to play past the 4 initial rounds as we were all so invested in our very own Comedy Central-style roast.

My other main takeaway is that we very much got out what we put into playing this one. The more open you’re willing to be, the more fun you’ll have. I’d recommend playing It’s the Roast for Me with your closest friends. It might not be the one to whip out at the company-wide Christmas party. You might struggle to roast Sandra from Accounts on a memorable shared experience.

It’s the attention to detail for me. To save any potential fallouts or hard feelings, Triple Dragon Games have included a handy pledge card. Before you even start playing, the rulebook instructs the whole group to read a pledge aloud. Once every player has pledged, get ready for a battlefield of insults, private jokes and overall hilarity.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I had a great time with It’s the Roast for Me. Although simple in its concept, It’s the Roast for Me has quickly become a game night staple for me. With high-quality cards and very travel-friendly, this little card game packs a huge punch. I would love to see an expansion for this game one day that introduces more variety to the action cards. Having more varied roasting topics, truths and dares would be an added bonus.

If you loved For the Girls or Truth Bombs, then It’s the Roast for Me is a must. Sharpen your claws, shake up those cocktails and settle down for a fiery game of It’s the Roast for Me!
