Gloomhaven Goes Digital Today!

News - Gloomhaven goes digital

Gloomhaven hit the board gaming community in a massive way in 2017. It was a behemoth of a game with huge amounts of content and story, As a result, it quickly rose to the top spot on BoardGameGeek.

It is a co-operative, Euro style, fantasy dungeon crawler. Players take on the role of an adventurer with special skills and back story. The adventurers will fight monsters, gather loot and gain experience and new abilities all whilst exploring new locations, dungeons and an ever-branching story.

Gloomhaven has now gone digital. Developed by Flaming Fowl Studios and published by Asmodee Digital, Gloomhaven early access is now available on Steam. It is not a direct copy of the board game, but more of a digital implementation at this stage with limited content. However, the plan is that between now and next year there will be more content and features added. If Flaming Fowl Studios/Asmodee Digital can implement all the features of the analogue in to the digital Gloomhaven, then it is going to be a massive hit.

Gloomhaven Early Access

In the early access you can play four different characters, there are nine different enemy types and three bosses. The early access has "Adventure mode" which contains procedurally generated scenarios for plays to battle through. The plan for the full launch is to have 17 characters and 47 different enemies plus a 95 scenario campaign. So, whilst the current version is very "light" on content there is a lot planned.

Full launch is planned for 2020 but there will be periodic updates between now and then with new content being released. Autumn will see the Tinker character class released. Winter will see a new environment, enemies and bosses and the Mindthief class released. The rest of 2020 will see more maps, more enemies, more bosses and more characters. Full support for multiplayer gameplay and the campaign mode will not be available until its full release, however.

If you are fan of Gloomhaven then it might be worth keeping an eye on this. If, like me, you have always wanted to play Gloomhaven but couldn't justify the cost or don't have the right group to play it then this could be a good way to get your Gloomhaven fix.
