Gamescom 2021: Xbox Showcase

gamescom 2021 xbox showcase

Gamescom officially kicks off tonight (25th), but that didn’t stop Xbox from hitting us with a pre-opening night livestream. There’s a lot to look forward to during this year’s Gamescom but it having Microsoft come in guns blazing before the event even starts feels a lot like doing a full workout as a warm-up. Xbox will feature throughout Gamescom so maybe they have some even bigger announcements lined-up... who knows! But let's took at what was announced at the Gamescom 2021 Xbox showcase.

Dying Light 2

First up we were given look at the long-awaited Dying Light 2. Techlands post-apocalypse parkour title arrives 7th December.

Flight Simulator

Microsoft Flight Simulator came in next. Jorg Neumann talked at length about the game’s sixth world update covering Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The update will be out on 7th September.

We were then treated to a look at The Reno Air Race expansion arriving this autumn. The competitive multiplayer mode will let you race against other players worldwide. Sadly there’s no word on the Top Gun expansion, so keep your need for speed to a minimum.

Empires 4

Next up at the Gamescom 2021 Xbox showcase was Age of Empires 4. The trebuchet, a medieval siege weapon, was the focus for far too long and we weren’t given a release date.

Wasteland 3

DLC for InXile’s Wasteland 3 is coming on 5th October. Titled Cult of the Holy Detonation, it’s set in the Cheyenne Mountain military complex and is designed for players at level 16.

Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves is getting another crossover ship cosmetics, this time with a Borderlands flavour. It’s available now until 7th September.

State of Decay

September 1st sees the arrival of State of Decay’s Homecoming update. It’ll boast a revamped and expanded map to help round off some of the game’s storylines.

Stray Blade

A trailer for Stray Blade was up next at the Gamescom 2021 Xbox showcase. It looks like a rather colourful action RPG where you play as an ever-reviving rogue adventurer with a wolf sidekick. It’s due out sometime in 2022.

Crusader Kings 3

Crusader Kings 3 was then announced for Xbox... without a date. This was quickly followed up by a chat with Double Fine about Psychonauts 2 which is out now!

Forza Horizon 5

For the finale, Forza Horizon 5 took centre stage. We had already been treated to its sumptuous graphics at E3, but it was great to see even more of what this hotly anticipated title has to offer.

What's Next?

Unfortunately, we didn’t get any information on Halo Infinite, not even a sniff of a release date. But with Microsoft taking part in tonight’s Gamescom Opening Night there’s still hope. To kick off the event, the Gamescom 2021 Xbox showcase was a great place to start!
