The Game With Ever-Changing Rules!
Fluxx was originally created in 1996 by Looney Labs - made up of NASA colleagues Andy and Kristin - who originally created a game named Icehouse. Kristin was fascinated by the game and decided to start a company to publish it! After the success of Icehouse, Looney Labs created an easy-to-learn card game which was fun to play, and so Fluxx was born!
Fluxx was an instant hit and had many publishers interested, but Looney Labs chose Iron Crown Industries (ICE), and their edition was first published in 1998. A few years later ICE filed for bankruptcy and the rights to Fluxx were back with Looney Labs who decided they no longer wanted anyone else publishing their games, they want it to do so themselves!
The Fluxx Franchise...
Since its conception Fluxx has been a massive success with Looney Labs bringing out numerous editions of the original Fluxx, and creating a menagerie of editions such as Monster Fluxx, Adventure Time Fluxx and Stoner Fluxx - which was initially created as a fund-raiser for the Drug Peace movement.
Fluxx is different to standard card games as the rules and conditions for winning are constantly changed throughout the game. There is one basic rule: draw one card and play one card during each player's turn. Sounds simple, right? But new rule cards can quickly change everything!
HOW TO PLAY
It starts out simple: draw one card and play one card – but New Rule cards quickly make things chaotic. Even the object of the game will often change as you play, as players swap out one Goal card for another. You start with a hand of three cards... add the card you drew to your hand, and then choose one card to play, following the directions written on your chosen card. As cards are drawn and played from the deck, the rules of the game change from how many cards are drawn, played or even how many cards you can hold at the end of your turn.
