News – Detective: Season One Revealed

Detective: Season One Revealed

Portal Games have revealed that Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game will be re-implemented as Detective: Season One. This announcement was made at last week's Essen event in Germany. Before we explain how the new version works, lets remind ourselves of the original game.

Detective - A Modern Crime Board Game

Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game was a massive hit in 2018. The co-operative detective game featured five linked cases and an innovative dedicated online database. Players used the database to search for information and clues. In the game you take on the role of an investigator solving crimes and puzzles for the Antares National Investigation Agency.

You must search the database for clues and information about your suspects and witnesses. You can also use the internet to decipher the facts from the lies and solve the case. Players had to perform plenty of research, information gathering and sorting and was pretty involved with note taking and chalk boards.

Season One

Detective: Season One will still be a co-operative detective game for one to five players. However, Season One will contain only three cases, each having a shorter play time than its bigger brother. Season One is being aimed more at the family friendly gaming night, or for those who want a "lighter" experience with more casual gamers. Each of the cases will be set in a different setting. This suggests that there is no overall arching story.

Detective: Season One is due to arrive with retailers in the second half of 2020. Given the success of the original game, it's likely that this will be a huge hit. Although aimed at a different market. Detective: Season One will be a great choice for a lighter detective, crime solving game, whilst still retaining some of the DNA from the original game.
