Bush’s Board Game Thing Episode 33: On The Road

Bushs Board Game Thing Episode 33 banner

Grab the Dobble and let's go! Bush's Board Game Thing sees Andy Bush celebrating board games and the experience of gaming with friends Elouise Carr and Brian Murphy. Each week, expect passion, enthusiasm, and multiple trips through gaming wormholes. This podcast is powered by Zatu - we're making sure the board game cogs keep on turning. Each week, I'll be bringing you the best bits here on the blog and letting you shop the podcast! In this episode, Andy and the gang are jumping on a train to meet our very own Dave and Aimee from Zatu. They pass the time by playing a good old game of Dobble and discussing the best games to play while you're on the go!

Do you have something that you'd like to share with the team? Maybe a great board game idea? Even when and where you like to listen to the podcast, set the scene. Email [email protected] if you want to get involved with the podcast. For example, if you have any board game disputes, let Andy and co get to the bottom of it!

What do you look for in a game to play while you're travelling? A compact size, quick(ish) play time, and one that is a whole lot more fun than I Spy. Luckily, we've got a whole bunch of games that cover all 3 categories. Let us take you through the top 3 Bush's Board Game Thing approved games while you're on the go!

Dobble

Let's start with the game the gang had a whale of a time playing on their train trip. Or should I say whale! Snowflake! Umbrella! Dog! These are all things you may find yourself shouting during a game of Dobble. Like Snap, only your reactions must be quicker and your brain functioning faster as you have to be the first one to match an image on your card with the one on the table and slap it down first. The only thing is, your card and the card on the table have multiple images on them...

Dobble themes spread far and wide and you can find a Star Wars, Pixar, and animal version of the game. As well as many, many more.

Better yet, Dobble comes in a small tin and therefore is an excellent contender for a portable game.

Bandida

Coming in another helpfully small box is Bandida. A spin-off of Bandido, Bandida is attempting a jailbreak, and it's up to you and your playmates to stop her!

While Bandida is a co-operative game, it has an added element of complication with the fact that you cannot look at each other's cards. So you must attempt to block her tunnels from the jail without piling on top of each other.

Bandida is part of a larger group of Helvetiq games, you could also bring her counterparts on the road with you, such as Forest, Kawaii, Misty, and Tucano!

Tiny Epic Pirates

Tiny Epic Pirates is a big game that comes in a weeny box. It'll last you a long car or train journey, without taking up too much room in your suitcase!

In Tiny Epic Pirates, you take control of a Pirate ship with the goal of burying vast amounts of wealth on secret island hideaways. You play as typical pirates, eye patches, and parrots 'n all and whoever manages to bury 3 treasures first is the winner.

The Tiny Epic series has multiple versions of the game such as Tiny Epic Zombies, Galaxies, and Kingdoms.
