Bush’s Board Game Thing Episode 15: Bedtime Gladiators

bushs board game thing episode 15

Behind every meeple, there's a dedicated designer. Bush's Board Game Thing sees Andy Bush celebrating board games and the experience of gaming with friends Jess Temby and Brian Murphy. Each week, expect passion, enthusiasm, and multiple trips through gaming wormholes. This podcast is powered by Zatu - we're making sure the board game cogs keep on turning. Each week, I'll be bringing you the best bits here on the blog and letting you shop the podcast! Today, we're recapping Bush's Board Game Thing Episode 15 that is all about the creation of board games

Do you have something that you'd like to share with the team? Maybe a great board game idea? Even when and where you like to listen to the podcast, set the scene. Email [email protected] if you want to get involved with the podcast. For example, if you have any board game disputes, let Andy and co get to the bottom of it!

Episode 15 is a deep dive into the great minds behind some of our favourite board games. Joining Andy, Jess and Brian this week is James M. Hewitt, one half of Needy Cat Games. Known as one of the great board game designers, James is most known for his work on the Hellboy and Devil May Cry board games.

Devil May Cry: The Bloody Palace

This is the Devil May Cry video game series like you have never seen it before.

The Bloody Palace allows you to take control of the iconic demon hunters, Dante, Nero, Trish and the mysterious V. You'll be trying to outscore other players by building the most impressive attack combos. The cards in your hand will be your biggest asset as they unlock the best combo chain. The bigger the chain, the more style points you'll receive!

Slaying demons isn't enough to be crowned Monarch of The Bloody Palace, it has to be done with style. Whether you play it with your household or solo, this is a game we cannot recommend enough.

Hellboy: The Board Game

Another one of Hewitt's creations, Hellboy: The Board Game brings you all of the gothic charms that the character is known for on both page and screen.

Become a member of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence today. Get ready to investigate occult threats that threaten the very existence of the human race and beyond. Explore gothic locations, hunt down clues, discover artefacts, fight horrific creatures and face off against terrifying bosses!

This game has been lovingly crafted based upon the legendary tales of horror, myth and folklore by Mike Mignola. Hellboy: The Board Game is a 1 to 4 player game that will give you one hell of a ride.

Blood Bowl: Second Season Edition

With James co-designing the spin-off Blitz Bowl, we wanted to shine a light on the base game of Blood Bowl: The Second Season Edition.

The legendary game of fantasy is back and bigger than ever. Get ready for a new season of ultra-violent sports mayhem. The plays are bigger, the hits are harder, and every game will be filled with moments to remember. As the coach of an Imperial Nobility or Black Orcs team, it’s up to you to guide your players through each play, each game, and each season to ultimate victory.

Think Superbowl but make it deadlier! Blood Bowl is fast and furious and full of monstrous fun!

Brian's Board Game Fact of the Week

Jess has claimed that this is one of his best, so prepare yourself! Brian is back on top form this week with a fact about a childhood staple.

Remember Hungry Hungry Hippos? Most of us know of these peckish mammals by their colours, but did you know that they all have names?  Well, Brian is here to introduce us to Lizzie, Henry, Homer and Harry - the hungry hungry hippos that we all know and love.
